The power of a plan – what could it do for you and your organization?

This article was written by Lauren Logan and is an important read as we see the first month of the new year gently sliding by.

Plain and simple – it is said, we are a nation of goal setters, not goal achievers. By February each year the gyms have pretty much cleared out after their January 2nd crush of enthusiasts earnestly seeking to shed a few pounds, get stronger, train for a race, etc., etc. The desire to actually accomplish their goal was strong, but the reality of taking action to achieve their goal was not well thought out. They failed to make plans for when obstacles occurred, and of course, obstacles often seem to jump in our paths.

Does the gym story pretty much describe your or your business’s success rate in achieving goals? What would it do for you if you had a plan, a strategic plan, a business plan, that is not only frequently referred to and adjusted to meet new market conditions, leadership, focus, but a plan whose mission and vision and values are highly inspiring and motivate you to set WHYSMART goals? And develop an action plan that, step by step, motivates you to actually achieve your goals.

Remember when, and I’m speaking more to our female readers here for a second but you guys stay with us, remember when it was a thing to get your “colors” done?  You had after this session a swatch book of all the colors that were most complimentary to you. You could then window shop, or quickly enter a store and zero in on exactly the colors that were yours, ignoring the rest, and sometimes never even entering the store if you could see from the outside it would not further your own mission – to look as good as you possibly can!

If in your daily life, you made decisions each day on your activities, the business decisions you make, the media you absorb, the relationships you cultivate, that focused on you living out your mission and values, and achieving your goals, can you imagine how much time you would gain? How much progress you would make at a pace much faster than before you had a plan? Can you imagine how then you might be motivated to set even higher goals and achieve even more?

If you’re interested in finding more time to do exactly what you are being called to do, what you want to do, consider taking a little time to make a plan!
